Things to do
Capertee Valley Retreat provides the opportunity for quiet seclusion. Relax, unwind and let nature restore you as you stroll over its acres of peaceful countryside.
The Retreat shares the valley with the Gardens of Stone National Park. The 15, 031 hectare park is part of the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains Wilderness Area. Also within easy drive of the Retreat and part of the Wilderness Area is the Wollemi National Park (138, 441ha) which protects the largest remaining forested wilderness in New South Wales and is home to the famous Wollemi Pine.
There are numerous opportunities for bushwalking in the more secluded parts of the Retreat and both the Gardens of Stone and Wollemi National Parks.
The Gardens of Stone National Park area is also home to some interesting caves. Visitation permits for these caves can be obtained from the Upper Mountains Area Manager at the NPWS Blue Mountains Region office in Blackheath.
With its eucalyptus forest and woodlands the world heritage area is home to many rare animals such as koalas, wombats and yellow belly gliders. A highlight of a stay is watching the kangaroos who enter the Retreat from the wilderness area at dusk. > read more
